Sector 3123 was a remote section of space in the Outer Rim, notorious for being filled with small, sensor-jamming nebulae. The Empire built a research facility there around the time of the Battle of Yavin, which was assaulted by the rebellion a year later. Said attack was repelled, but the facility was nonetheless abandoned after the Battle of Endor, and became a hideout for various pirates.
