Watson started his career as a youth at Glentoran, before moving to Ards where he spent three seasons, making his senior debut at the age of just 16. He then moved to Ballymena United, becoming one of Tommy Wright's first signings. Despite an injury-blighted spell, he made over 100 appearances for the Braidmen. He has also represented Northern Ireland at U17, U18, and U19 level. He has two boys with partner Andrea grant
