The giant sand ray is an abnormal that lives under the sand of the Egyptian desert. A young female of the species surfaced itself because of the shockwave sent out by Big Bertha. Its body was taken to the Cairo Sanctuary by the local house head, Pili, for further study. They live off of geo-thermal heat. In the episode "Normandy", Watson believed the Nazis were using a hive of them to collect geo-thermal energy and use it to power a machine that could control the weather.
