Also known as Iarilo or Gerovit, Jarilo is a god of vegetation, fertility, spring and sex from Slavic mythology. Worship of him lasted until the 19th century in Russia, Belarus and Serbia. They would hold festivals called Jarilo, which were celebrated in late spring or early summer. He was a deity associated with life and death, as he was believed to be reborn and killed every year. Jarilo was a son of the supreme Slavic god of thunder, Perun. He was believed to be his missing tenth son who disappeared during the Great Night. He would be kidnapped and raised in the underworld by Veles.
