William Mercer is was acting Associate Attorney General in the Greatest Justice Department Ever until he announced his resignation from the position on DOJ Friday, June 22, 2007. Mercer is was had been serving as acting Associate Attorney General since last September, making him the third-ranking official in the DOJ after Speedy and the recently resigned Paul McNulty. Like McNulty, Mercer was not involved in the U.S. Attorney Firing Scandal, but may have been largely responsible for any wrongdoings that took place.
