John Donovan was a United States Senator. As of Day 10, Donovan was in the midst of campaigning for President of the United States. Shortly after 12pm, John attended the award ceremony for his wife Rebecca at the United States Capitol. He declined to accompany her to the podium to collect her award, as he wanted the moment to be all hers. Rebecca than had to go to CTU for a handover meeting, so Donovan and his assistant Nilaa Mizrani made their own way to a fundraiser. However, on the way Rebecca called to say there was a situation and she could not make. Donovan reminded her that it was no longer her job, but she did not budge, so he started preparing to have the fundraiser without her. ("Day 10: 12:00pm-1:00pm")
