Vanier was a municipality located east of Ottawa. The city itself was amalgamated with other area municipalities to form an expanded City of Ottawa in 2001. Prior to that, Vanier operated its own fire department until 1985 when the City decided to disband it and purchase fire protection from Ottawa Fire Services. Trucks and equipment were sold. Vanier was known as Eastview from its formation until 1969.
