When the SCE began to revise new and existing starship classes to be modular, the engineers constructed a replica of the centuries old NX-class spaceframe. Outwardly, the Utopia resembled 2150s NX-class vessels but was equipped with state-of-the-art technology. As a nod towards history, the NX-class replica was fitted with a grappler. Although the Utopia was designed to be modular, none of its components were actually interchangeable with any starship class currently in service. (STO mission: "Welcome to Earth Spacedock")
