The Chilean sea bass (Dissostichus eleginoides) was an edible fish native to Earth. After Shuttlepod 1 was damaged by a microsingularity in 2151, Malcolm Reed ate a ration pack consisting of Chilean sea bass while awaiting rescue. (ENT: "Shuttlepod One") The Chilean sea bass is more properly known as the Patagonian toothfish. The name "sea bass" came about as a marketing ploy for selling the fish in the United States. It is curious that Reed chose the sea bass ration, since his friend Mark Latrelle mentioned that he thought Reed might hate fish in "Silent Enemy" .
