Bering Straits (coord. 70°,170°) are north of the Bering Sea inside the territorial waters of the USSR. They claimed violations of USA military operating there and threatened blockade of the Straits. Washington denied the accusations and issued a counter communique warning that if any blockade is encountered, appropriate action would be taken.
