Enesh-jer was a Grisian noble who had served as a young lieutenant in the Malazan 6th Army that mutinied during the Korelri Campaign. As one of the Malazan occupiers, he became part of the new found nobility in the Lands of Fist, serving as an Envoy of the Overlord. He had fully adopted worship of the Lady, patron goddess of Fist, as her presence was tangible while the gods of the Malazan Empire were denied access. He owed his position within the military command to his fervent devotion rather than his martial skills, and he and his staff were more priests than commanders.
