The Master Percussionist was the Shogunate version of the Head of Court Musicians. The Shogun was responsible of the court's percussion instruments and drums, and one of the Bakufu was always selected as Master Percussionist after the inception of the Shogunate. He was an officer of rank equal to a Shireikan, responsible for the training of all court drummers and also for the training and management of field drummers in the [[Imperial Legions]].
