Zero was a renegade espionage droid and slicer. During the Cold War he reprogrammed several other droids to serve and defend himself and set up a lair on Nar Shaddaa near the Central Hub Prime, though which passed all Imperial communications. Zero remotely hacked the hub and gained access to the top secret military data. Though his intrusion was noted and his identity traced, Imperials remained unaware that the hacker was in fact a droid. Imperial Intelligence ordered Zero neutralized, and Commander Stron recruited for the task an Imperial hero who stormed Zero's lair and destroyed the droid.
