The Black Knight is a mysterious figure who guards a "bridge" (a plank of wood) over a small stream. Arthur encounters him while searching for the Holy Grail, leading to a duel in which the Black Knight loses his arm. Despite declaring himself the victor (and getting his other arm chopped off), the Black Knight refused to relent, causing Arthur to lop off his foe's legs before continuing on his way, with the Black Knight screaming and cussing for the King of Britain to return.
