Apple Inc. provides updates to the iOS operating system for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch through iTunes, since iOS 5, and through over-the-air software updates. With the announcement of iOS 5 on June 6, 2011, a USB connection to iTunes is no longer needed to activate iOS devices; data synchronization can happen automatically and wirelessly through Apple's iCloud service. The latest available version, iOS 9.3.5 was released on 25 August 2016.
