Varn's Race was a race of technologically advanced humanoid beings. Around 1758 they installed the Great Machine deep beneath the surface of Epsilon III to hide from a violent group of outcasts. The machine and its secrets were put in the care of a lone guardian and a race of caretakers when the last of Varn's race, save the outcasts, died.
