Grossmothers were monstrously obese she-goblins who presided over and nourished Gyle Goblin colonies. Twig wandered into a Grossmother's kitchen in Beyond the Deepwoods. She caught him and threw him to the Spindlebugs. Later, Twig fell into her honey-pot and soured the batch. The Gyle Goblins, suspecting her of attempting to poison them, raided her kitchen and stuffed her down the garbage chute. In organized goblin governments such as the Goblin Nations and Hive, Grossmothers typically sat on the councils as representatives of the Symbite Goblins.
