Patrick Henry , America's third Speaker of the Grand Council, pushed for further independence from Great Britain, and fought the President-General for greater autonomy. Also, Henry introduced the Philadelphia Resolves in 1784, which unintentionally became the default manifesto of the Whig Party, calling for the direct election of members of the Grand Council, as well as further populist reforms.
