Peter Kane is a prospector Adam meets after he has been robbed and left to die in the desert. At first, Kane seems to be a pleasant man who offers Adam both food and drink. In exchange for helping him, Kane asks Adam to do some work in his claim for three days. In return for his services Kane promises to lend Adam his mule. However, Kane is a cunning madman who is interested in psychological torture, hoping to drive a seemingly rational man, like Adam, to murder. Therefore, he reduces food and water, humiliates Adam, and doesn't allow him to get any rest during his hard work.
