Alan Browning (23rd March, 1926 - 7th September, 1979) was a British actor whose best known role was that of Geordie Alan Howard on Coronation Street from 1969 to 1974 with a return appearance via a voice-over in 1977. He was married to Patricia Phoenix, who played his Street wife Elsie Howard from 1972 until his death in 1979 from liver failure following years of alcohol abuse.
