In the United States Patent and Trademark Office, a Group Art Unit is a working unit responsible for a cluster of related patent art. Each Unit is staffed by one supervisory patent examiner and a number of patent examiners who determine the patentability on patent applications. Each Units are identified by a four digit number, i.e., 1642.
