A makeshift wand was used by Alexandra Quick in the Summer of 2007 to fight off a colony of redcaps at Old Larkin Pond with a display of accidental magic. In her fear and frustration, Alex caused a wet branch to issue "bright blue and yellow sparks," as well as "little balls of fire." After escaping the redcaps, Alex dropped in the branch as she fled the Pond.
