Byakuya Kuchiki (朽木 白哉 Kuchiki Byakuya Literally meaning "Decayed Log, White Night") was formerly the Captain of the 6th Division within the Gotei 13 and an exemplar Shinigami who dutifully protected the Soul Society while giving his life up to the cause. After a number of events which caused him to fall from grace, Byakuya Kuchiki relinquished this title and became an adjutant to the Central 46 and an emissary to contact the Zero Division in times of emergency. He still retains his occupation as the current head of the Kuchiki Clan however.
