Gettysburg is a borough 38 miles southwest of Harrisburg in Adams County, Pennsylvania. It was the site of the Battle of Gettysburg, fought July 1 to July 3, 1863. It is now the site of two historic landmarks: Gettysburg National Military Park and the Gettysburg National Cemetery. The Battle of Gettysburg, fought in and around the town of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, as part of the Gettysburg Campaign, was the bloodiest battle of the American Civil War and is frequently cited as the war's turning point. Union Major General George G. Meade's Army of the Potomac defeated attacks by Confederate General Robert E. Lee's Army of Northern Virginia, ending Lee's invasion of the North. Besides being a famous historical Civil War site, Gettysburg is supposedly one of the most haunted places in America
