The M class is based on the preceding L class, but enhanced in several ways. Despite a smaller displacement, their range and top speed have increased, and two Pom-pom guns have been added. The M class is the base for a large number of following subclasses ordered under the emergency war programme that are now the backbone of the British light forces.
