David Hamburger (b. 1898) was the brother of Congresswoman and one-time U.S. First Lady Flora Blackford. He served in the United States Army in the Great War in Chester Martin's squad on the Roanoke Front. Hamburger was severely wounded; his leg had to be amputated above the knee. Flora had refused to use her position as congresswoman to protect David, a decision David supported. She nonethess felt a certain guilt for that choice, although David never bore her any ill-will. After the Second Great War, Hamburger met with his sister, and reminisced about the course of history since 1914.
