In 2008, Mano left Hello Pro Egg and Ongaku Gatas to begin her solo career under Hello! Project. She released three indies singles before being signed to the UP-FRONT GROUP's major label hachama in 2009. Her debut single under this label, "Otome no Inori," peaked at #5 on the Oricon weekly singles chart and is her highest-selling single to date. The same year, she released her debut album, FRIENDS, which is her highest-selling album.
