When Tachyon Communications came out, tech whores around the five universes of AE rejoiced, as it meant they no longer had to research useless tech (e.g. Missiles, Computer) just to keep their tech rank up. It will take a while to see the long term effects, but tech whoring could become a terribly effective strategy.
