General Smith was a Joint Strike Force general who led the defending American forces in the Battle of Paris. During the battle, he was killed when he ordered a Kinetic Strike on his position rather than allow himself to be captured by the Russians. This was shown in the EndWar trailer and mentioned in passing in the novel. In the game, the Battle of Paris as depicted in the trailer does not take place, or at least is not seen. There is only the battle for Paris between the defending European Federation and an invading JSF unit.
