A tribe, or group of tribes, of Indo-European origin. The Illyrians were conquered by Rome in 168BC. The area became a province, Illyricum, in 27AD. Pannonia was added to Illyricum by Augustus in 9BC. There was a revolt by Pannonian and Dalmatian tribes in 6AD. The revolt was ended by Tiberius and Germanicus in 9AD. The Province was split into Dalmatia, in the south, and Pannonia, in the north.
