Mengilai is detailed in Night Horrors: The Wicked Dead, a book featuring a number of creatures that resemble vampires, but are not Kindred. It is the unique discipline of the penanggal, Malaysian blood-drinkers that masquerade as normal people during the day, but at night their heads detach from the rest of their body, allowing them to use a number of powers, such as their inhumanly powerful voice. Because Mengilai requires a penanggal's terrifying voice to perform, it cannot be learned by Kindred under any normal circumstance.
