James Peritone was the leader of the Analytical Reckoners, later renamed the Virtual Adepts, until his death in 1941. He oversaw the beginning of the schism between the Adepts and the rest of the Technocratic Union as the Adepts' interest in information flows and telecommunication strained against the constraints of the Time Table. In 1915 he publicly denied his convention's involvement in the release of the Zimmerman Telegram even while internally chastising the culprits. In 1941 he was killed during the bombing of London. He was succeeded by Roger Thackery.
