The Documents folder was a standard part of the Macintosh system software and Mac OS beginning from the special system version which shipped with the Macintosh Performa. They became standard on all Macintosh computers beginning with System 7.5. In Mac OS X, each[user had their own individual Documents folder inside their own Home folder. With System 7.5, Apple would incorporate an option to automatically save new documents to the Documents folder.
