Initially Donruss proceeded slowly into the world of baseball card. Its first several years it produced only a single set but then added some send off sets via wrapper redemptions and its first standalone boxed set 1985 Donruss Highlights that would be replaced beginning in 1986 with the Donruss The Rookies sets. In 1985, Donruss also introduced the Leaf brand to establish a baseball card market in Canada.
