An ion modulator was a component of the ion distributor, a power distribution device on the Ares IV command module. In 2376, Seven of Nine and Tom Paris were able to adapt the Ares IV's ion distributor to the systems of the Delta Flyer by resequencing its ion modulators. (VOY: "One Small Step")
