The emblem depicts a hammer and cogwheel in the middle, the symbol of the Turkish Republican Workers' Party and based upon the hammer and sickle. They rest within a red shield which has a flaming torch at its helm. The shield is surrounded by a sheath of golden leaves, with the name of the country (Türkiye'nin Demokratik Cumhuriyeti) written below in Turkish. Below that is the date in which modern Turkey was founded, 1946.
