John Brown Matheson was a former genetic slave and a member of the Audubon Ballroom. He and his mother were freed by a People's Navy heavy cruiser, and took their last name from that ship's first officer. John later became a waiter at Chez Fiammetta's on the planet Jasper, but was also a member of the Audubon Ballroom, as were his wife, Boadicea, and their daughter, Betsy Ross. In 1899 PD, they contacted Honor Harrington of the Royal Manticoran Navy to inform her of a slave depot in the Casimir System. (HHA5.3: LD)
