Bathed in the glow of a red star, the belt was being exploited by Kel-Morian Combine miners when the Confederate Marine Corps attacked the mining team, claiming its leader was wanted for murder on Tarsonis. They eliminated the entire team and while the deaths were portrayed as an unintentional tragedy, the Confederacy began exploiting the belt within days, augmented by a marine garrison and battlecruiser support.
