Some of the activities of the branch include combat air patrols around Japan and maintaining an extensive integrated network of early-warning radar stations. As of 2010, the JASDF operates 805 aircraft; including 424 fighters. Just like the German Luftwaffe, the JASDF is only allowed to operate defensive weapons.
