Vincent DeMarco (1948-1984) was a bookmaker, running poker games, roulette, blackjack, cockfights, and other gambling-related ventures for his boss, crime lord Albert "Al" Lombard. He had the responsibility to collect gambling debts on Barbara Carrow, first by seizing her husband Jerry's work equipment, then by killing Barbara as a message to others who won't pay their debts, and then to get the police off his back, he convinced IAD officer Ben Schroeder that Detective James "Sonny" Crockett was his partner, and when Schroeder observes DeMarco giving Crockett $8000 (which DeMarco claims was the cash equivalent of Jerry Carrow's work equipment they sold), the officer (and two Metro-Dade officers) arrested Crockett.
