The USS Waimakariri (NCC-72469) is a Danube-class runabout. The Waimakariri is an auxiliary craft for the USS Cantabrian (NCC-24705). Her sister ships include the USS Hurunui (NCC-72468) and USS Avon (NCC-72467). Named after one of the rivers running near Christchurch in New Zealand. The Waimakariri's nickname is the "Waimak". Literally translated from Māori, "Waimakariri" means "cold, rushing water".
