A fifth installment in the Alien series has been proposed at various times since the release of the 1997 film Alien Resurrection, with numerous unrealised ideas put forward by several writers and directors. Sigourney Weaver, who played Ellen Ripley in the first four films of the series, has been a strong proponent of making a fifth Alien film, although she initially indicated that she would only agree to star if either Scott or James Cameron were at the helm. The production of a fifth movie gained increased traction when Blomkamp released concept art for a potential fifth entry, tentatively titled Alien: Xeno, via his Instagram account in January 2015. Weaver has subsequently indicated she would be willing to participate in an Alien film directed by Blomkamp.
