Lowry was drafted by the Lambton Quay Phantoms in 1952, being taken 13th in the sixth round and being drafted 93rd overall. In 1955, he signed a three-year extension with the Phantoms for ƒ134,000 per year. In 1957, Lowry signed a five-year extension with Lambton Quay for ƒ156,600 per year. In 1962, Lowry would sign a contract extension which paid the slugger ƒ294,300 per year. After his contract expired in 1967, Lowry would announce his retirement after the 1967 season.
