The 2077 New Orleans Tornado was the most destructive to hit New Orleans in History. A line of strong thunderstorms developed in Texas overnight September 21. It began to head for Louisiana, and strong supecells began to develop ahead of it. The SPC issued a Moderate Risk for areas south of Lake Pontchartrian, including New Orleans. Most of south Louisiana was put under an Enhanced Risk. However, as a tornado outbreak began, a high risk was issued for areas around New Orleans. A very strong supercell devloped at around 12:30 west of New Orleans. Within 30 minutes, it had developed into a tornado. It began to intensify very quickly.
