Puppet army refers to the army formed by the invader by recruiting the people from the occupation zone. If the invasion is successful, the occupation zone becomes part of the invading country, and this term with negative connotation is no longer used. In the Chinese language this term (, literally means "fake army") usually refers to the armies collaborating with Japan during the Second Sino-Japanese War, that is the Collaborationist Chinese Army, which were formed by recruiting people from the Japanese occupation zones.
