The defeat at Stahlon severely hurt morale among the Sinyan soldiers. The new SDF leader, Joe Tylars, was now faced with the problem of getting the needed war supplies with a much smaller and demoralized army. In order to boost morale he decided a major victory was needed, but he also decided that it must result in victory or what little morale was left would quickly be lost. Deciding to proceed with caution, Tylars sent out spies to find a city that was lightly defended but also had no reserves nearby. The city of Eisenval was selected as the target.
