Juan Pablo Montoya, the ex-F1 start drove to his first career victory, using good driving and good strategy to drive to a four-second victory on Kevin Harvick. Points leader Jeff Gordon finished 7th after a topsy-turvy week, having his first child on Wednesday but having his car fail inspection on Friday. Gordon and teammate Jimmie Johnson both failed inspection and were banned from qualifying, and later in the week penalties were expected to shrink Gordon's 271-point championship lead on Denny Hamlin (10th).
