Violet, Klaus and Sunny Baudelaire were at Briny Beach on the fateful day they found out their parents had perished in a terrible fire that had destroyed their home. When Mr. Poe arrived to deliver the news, Violet was skipped rocks and attempting to think up a device which could retrieve them, and Klaus was examining the nearby creatures. Violet, Klaus and Sunny later returned to Briny Beach, waiting to meet Quigley Quagmire. Instead, seeing a taxi, they entered it, thinking Quigley was inside, but were instead greeted by Kit Snicket.
