Former WBUP/WBKP logo.The station signed-on in January 2003 as a full-time satellite of ABC affiliate WBKP in Calumet. It replaced low-power repeater W28BX channel 28 in Marquette. As a full powered station, WBUP reached more areas than the repeater did because that signal was very weak and could only be picked up in Marquette and Negaunee. It aired an analog signal on VHF channel 10 from a transmitter on the tower of PBS affiliate WNMU in Ely Township. WBKP and WBUP took the on-air branding "ABC 5&10".
