Prelude to 1871 In 1871, the true power of the Imperial German Empire was revealed at its victory over France in the Franco-Prussian War. However, its nationalistic movements started as early as 1848. In 1914 Germany once again showed its might by defeating Britain, France and Russia and gained vast areas of land.
